Looking after our mental health is just as important as caring for our physical health, but for many people, asking for help is difficult. Some feel anxious about opening up, others do not know where to turn, and many face practical challenges such as transport, childcare, or long waiting lists that make accessing support harder. For some, the biggest obstacle is simply not knowing what help is available.
Spring North is a local charity deeply embedded in the communities we serve. Our work stretches across Lancashire and South Cumbria, where we have established strong, enduring relationships with residents, community leaders, and local organisations. These connections enable us to bring the right people and services together, making mental health support more accessible and easier to access.
We do more than just signpost. We coordinate and oversee projects to ensure they meet the highest standards, are based on evidence, and are delivered in familiar settings that people know and trust, such as community centres, schools, faith spaces, and local hubs. Our strong partnerships with specialist mental health providers enable people to access a range of support, from informal drop-ins and group activities to one-on-one therapeutic assistance, in a way that suits them.
Our approach begins with listening. We engage directly with residents to hear their experiences, and we collaborate with frontline staff to understand the challenges they encounter. This insight informs everything we do, ensuring services are relevant, inclusive, and straightforward to access.
By integrating support, we enable individuals to move seamlessly between different services without delays or confusion. This ensures people receive appropriate help early, prevents small issues from escalating into crises, and reduces pressure on already overstretched NHS and community services. The outcome is lasting change, better mental wellbeing, stronger families, and communities that feel more connected and supported.
We commissioned Spring North to provide therapeutic support on the wards to support children and young people’s mental health whilst they were becoming physically well. The impact has been above and beyond anything we expected, with patients, families, and staff all reporting greater emotional wellbeing, improved skills, and a more supportive environment. The service has also reduced hospital admissions for emotional health needs, saving £500k per year, with plans to expand across Lancashire and South Cumbria so more young people can benefit.
