Working together to bring more support into the heart of Preston

Winter can be a difficult time for many people. Whether it’s worrying about your health, feeling lonely, struggling with household bills, or simply needing someone to talk to, a little extra support can sometimes make all the difference. That’s why Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Spring North and the Lancashire and South Cumbria VCFSE Alliance have come together to launch a new Community Wellbeing Hub in Ingol, Preston, bringing their resources, experience and local connections together to help residents access support closer to home.

Based at Lady Elsie Finney House Day Centre, the hub offers local residents a welcoming place to pop in, have a chat and get support before everyday worries become bigger problems.

What’s particularly encouraging about this project is that organisations have come together, each playing a part in making it happen.

The project brings together organisations from across Lancashire and South Cumbria, each playing an important role in making this support available to local people.

Lancashire County Council is supporting the initiative by providing the community venue at no cost, making better use of existing community buildings outside their usual opening hours and creating more opportunities for local people to access support close to home.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has provided funding for professionals to deliver the sessions, while Spring North is coordinating the project through its network, building on the Lancashire and South Cumbria VCFSE Alliance’s commitment to helping people stay safe, healthy and independent at home, particularly during the winter months.

Spring North member organisations Calm Together and Regenerage are bringing that support directly into the community, offering practical advice, emotional support and opportunities for people to connect with others.

This is a great example of how working together and making better use of existing community spaces can bring support closer to the people who need it.

The hub is here for people who may worry about their health, feel isolated, struggle with everyday pressures, or lack confidence in managing their wellbeing.

For some, that might mean discussing health concerns and receiving reassurance. For others, it could mean finding help with food, housing or finances, meeting new people, or simply having somewhere to turn when things feel overwhelming.

By helping residents understand their options and connect with local services, the partnership aims to prevent problems from escalating and to reduce avoidable pressures on health services this winter.
