Church on the Street – CMHT

Project completed in partnership with:
The Spring North CMHT project works with a range of VCFSE organisations to provide mental health support for adults in their local communities. This project is part of the Lancashire & South Cumbria ICB’s long term plan to transform Community Mental Health services across the region.

Through the CMHT Grant Fund, we are proud to support Church on the Street, a Christian organisation and registered Charity designed to support the most vulnerable members of the community. They provide a community Hub in Burnley town centre with a number of services including, a community kitchen run by a team of volunteers serving food and drinks, counselling services, listening services, laundry and shower facilities, clothing bank and food parcels. In addition to this, they work with a number of partner organisations to offer drop in clinics including LSCFT Mental Health Drop-Ins, an ELHT Treatment Room and Podiatry service, Inspire Drug and Alcohol services, Living Well Checks provided by local PCN’s Pendleside, Red Rose, Elisha House, opticians, HEP C and Liver Testing, Shelter and Samaritans. COTS services are provided by paid staff and volunteers the majority of whom have lived experience in substance misuse, poor mental health and homelessness. They also offer a recovery academy – The Exodus Project.

The Exodus Project is a 12-week therapeutic programme looking at creating foundational principles for a sustainable recovery. During the course of the programme the students are encouraged to address their attitudes, behaviours and past traumas that led them into harmful habits. The goal is to maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle and abstain from using harmful substances as well as being able to sustain any current mental health medication that helps to stabilise moods affecting behaviour. By the end of the programme, the students will be able to maintain their recovery and step into further volunteering, training and education roles if they wish to. Each student has open and ongoing access to all partnerships and services provided by Church on the Street before, during and after their time on the programme.

Together with the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board, we are committed to ensuring that Church on the Street continues to make a profound impact on the lives of the most vulnerable members of the community.
