Spring North to launch free bereavement support for adults, children and young people in Blackburn

This November, Spring North will introduce a new free, in-person bereavement support service for adults, children, and young people aged 5–25 across Blackburn with Darwen. The service will provide a safe and compassionate space for anyone experiencing grief and loss, right at the centre of the community.

The project was created in response to feedback from local people and organisations that more emotional support is needed in Blackburn’s communities. Too often, people face bereavement alone, unsure where to turn or feeling they have to stay strong for others. These new drop-in sessions aim to change that by offering local, confidential help that is easy to access, with no referral or waiting list required.

To achieve this, Spring North is working closely with Age UK Blackburn with Darwen, Community CVS, One Voice Blackburn, Blackburn Youth Zone, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, and WISH. These trusted local partners already play a crucial role in supporting wellbeing, belonging, and connection across the borough. By collaborating, we’re creating spaces that feel familiar, safe, and welcoming — whether in a youth setting, a community hub, or a local charity venue.

All sessions will be led by Re-Align Futures, a team of compassionate practitioners specialising in wellbeing, resilience, and recovery. They bring warmth, understanding, and practical tools to help individuals manage grief, build emotional resilience, and reconnect with everyday life.

Dawn Hardman, from Re-Align Futures, said:

“Grief can shape how a person feels, thinks, and manages day-to-day life, and it’s often carried quietly. Many people don’t reach out because they don’t know where to start. These sessions offer a safe and gentle space to come as you are to talk, to be heard, and to receive support without judgement.”

Martin Hartley-Smith, CEO of Spring North, added:

“We work closely with communities across Blackburn with Darwen and see firsthand how deeply bereavement affects people of all ages. This is an increasing need that cannot be ignored. By partnering with trusted local organisations like Age UK Blackburn with Darwen, Community CVS, One Voice Blackburn, Blackburn Youth Zone, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, WISH, and Re-Align Futures, we’re making sure that support is free, local, and easy to access so people can get help when they need it, not months later.”
