Asthma Community Health Champions

Project completed in partnership with:

86 committed, experienced asthma health champions deliver key health messages, advice on asthma management and other social determinants that affect health in families and communities across Lancashire and South Cumbria. They work within families, community networks and groups to increase knowledge and understanding of asthma as well as exploring local barriers, challenges, and delivery needs. They offer support from in the community and in the family’s surroundings and language rather than from a clinical/health perspective.

They also work with young people to identify their barriers and needs of living with asthma and encourage them to be champions and promote a peer support package for asthma management. They work in partnership with schools to promote the Healthier Together resources in community settings for school age CYP.

Their main aim is to direct families and young people away from emergency departments within hospitals and promote self-management of their asthma and health as well as utilising pharmacies and GP services.

I was given great advice. My daughter and son developed asthma because of damp, it's really useful to know that we should be using a spacer, very informative and professional conversation.
